Your Questions Answered

  1. How do I know this will work for me?
The 30 minute, no obligation, free consultation is a great way of finding out.
We will find out whether we feel comfortable working together. There is no obligation on either part to continue should this not be the case, for whatever reason.
We will also find out what you would like to gain from counselling and what your expectations are.
  2. How many sessions will I need?
I recommend a minimum of 12 sessions for developmental trauma work.
For Rewind (PTSD), 2-3 sessions then one follow up session at 3 months.
  3. What will the therapy be like?
The therapy will be tailored to your needs– I integrate several therapeutic approaches : Rewind therapy for PTSD ; Trauma-informed; Somatic awareness; Attachment focused; Internal Family Systems; Compassion-focused; and Creative therapy.
  4. What do these different therapeutic approaches mean?
Rewind therapy for PTSD – this can help stop or reduce your nightmares, flashbacks, intrusive thoughts, anxiety and avoidance after a traumatic event.
Trauma-informed – Trauma-informed therapy asks “What happened to you?” instead of “What is wrong with you?”. It can help understand your past trauma and how it affects you in the present, and discover ways in which you can live a more balanced, peaceful and fulfilling life.
Somatic awareness – noticing what you experience in the mind and the body as well as the connection between the two
Attachment focused – exploring how childhood experiences might impact your adult relationships
Internal Family Systems – help identify, accept and heal the different parts of yourself
Compassion-focused – help with issues of shame and self-criticism
Creative therapy – using non-verbal expression like drawing, working with stones, working with visual cards, etc, as a means to communicate your inner world.
